Details:

The focus of the overall study is to conduct a desktop study to analyse the stretch of River Ganga from Gangotri to Kanpur for dividing the stretch into homogeneous zones enabling identification of the most sensitive zone and also the most sensitive sites.

Desktop analysis using the secondary data on the following:

  • Analysis of the changes in river morphology using the satellite imageries and terrain.
  • Analyze the satellite imageries to assess the land-use changes over the flood plain area and extending the targeted aerial coverage beyond the flood plain if required.
  • Identification of all the constituent entities such as major tributaries joining the stretch, all the man made structures, such as barrages and other diversions, the potential sources of point and non point pollution, the meandering and stable sections, etc.
