Details:

Providing a layout plan and to evaluate the excavation volume along the proposed railway track between Birganj and Katmandu using the state of the art technology. The final feasible railway track has been designed after iteration keeping in view all the design criteria. The final feasible track of 165 km between Kathmandu and Birganj is proposed which includes stations, tunnels, viaducts and  bridges are proposed. The cut and fill analysis for volume of cut and volume of fill was computed.

The whole solution has been worked out using the GIS platform. A comprehensive details of the activities proposed between the stations along the track and complete profiles for each of the proposed activities have been provided.

This study has been a far more challenging one, since the track in this terrain had to go for a considerable length from the river valley area and further through a narrow gorge.

In may be emphasized that the methodology used and proposed here has made it possible to explore many alternatives in a relatively short period. It would not have been possible to explore these many options using conventional approach. Moreover, the GIS framework developed during the study shall also be useful during the implementation stage and can make the implementation process smooth and efficient.
