Details:

Thermal power stations can impact the environment in different ways and at different locations. Continuous monitoring of these sites are carried out periodically to monitor the quality of Air, Noise, Water, and soil pollutants. This data keeps growing and a need was felt to keep theses and update the data simultaneously. It was also felt that there should be a mechanism to view and query and generate report about the health of Environment around the STPP.

The Information System for this purpose is developed as a secured web-based GIS application with a user-friendly interface to Add, Update and Analyze the data obtained from different sites of NTPC and to assess the Impact of pollution arising from the Power Plant on the adjoining areas. Map display part is developed using open source GIS codes which works without having any commercial GIS working in the background so that the users can view the location of the monitoring site.

The interface is designed to operate on the intra/internet with secured logins. Along with the security features, features to add project related data, view/modify/query site related data has been developed.

As a part of this project a special river water quality monitoring was taken up. Water sampling and analysis of Ganga river as well as effluent outlet of NTPC Power Plant (4 x 210 MVJ) at Kahalgaon, Dist-Bhagalpur, Bihar was carried out.
